Reporting to the European Senior Search Manager, the European Retail Search Manager creates and deploys the European Pet Nutrition Digital Retail Search strategy. This role is critical in maximising the exposure and performance of the Mars online Petcare portfolio.
The European Retail Search Manager defines, guides the execution of, and measures the performance of self-serve onsite programmatic-bought retail media strategy and Organic Search with our European eCommerce customers (Amazon & Zooplus), local market key customers, and cross-market search initiatives.
The role is critical in supporting the implementation of the regional Retail Media Strategy, working with the Head of Retail Media, building best practice' capability in our market clusters and our Digital Business Unit (improving media performance) and customer engagement (improving media access).
What are we looking for?
- Prior experience managing Retail Paid (/Retail Media) & Organic Search activities in an agency environment and/or large business.
- Strong commercial understanding of eCommerce
- Deep understanding of Paid & Organic Search; algorithms, engines and optimisation for both Paid and Natural Search.
- Experience with managing Amazon media, directly or indirectly (via agency).
- Ability to benchmark market best practices in search and help markets deploy them
- Good communication skills to educate stakeholders on all levels & report across key metrics
- Good mix of analytical/conceptual skills to understand and then optimise search performance
- Proven project management skills, attention to detail and exceptional organisational skills
- Ability to effectively influence cross borders in a matrix environment
The role will require a high level of Digital Search subject matter expertise, technical leadership, and project management skills to manage various expertise-based search projects, processes, and strategies.
What will BE your key responsibilities?
Strategic Retail Search Leadership :
- Develop our Paid and Organic digital search strategy and activity evolution roadmap to improve Mars share of search across Europe with customers and maximise ROI
- Manage strategic partners across priority markets in Europe to drive self-serve onsite paid search campaigns for Amazon, Zooplus and local customers
- Build a clear contact strategy with key retailers and to understand our customer search algorithms to drive SEO / Organic Search.
- Identify white space search opportunities for Mars
- Work with Mars and/ or external agencies to ensure the right capability & tools are in place to deliver this Search Strategy
- Lead, inspire and motivate the organisation behind this Search Strategy
Retail Paid Search :
- Lead the agency relationships for the region to drive paid search plans and project execution.
- Provide the customer team with data-based search performance insights, continuously align business priorities and how these translate to search actions.
- Maintain and evolve the existing processes, templates, tools and reports in place for effectively managing, evaluating, and continuously improving the paid search activities
- Execute tests, collect and analyse data, identify trends and insights in order to achieve maximum short-term ROI and structurally improve long-term account performance.
- Manage campaign expenses, staying on budget, estimating monthly costs and reconciling discrepancies
Retail Organic Search :
- Work with the Customer Development Managers, Ecom Content Managers, and Acceleration Managers to define methodology and processes and the execution of priority projects; optimise copy, taxonomy, and product pages.
- Build our capability in creating a keyword library and continuously updating this with keyword discovery, expansion and optimisation
- Retail Search analysis & measurement :
- Work with the Digital Analysts, Acceleration Managers, and agencies to track, report, and analyse digital shelf analytics for natural and paid search
- Provide periodic insights into our performance and how we are continuously evolving our Organic and paid self-serve onsite search plans in line with industry trends and retailer search engines
- Drive measurement standardisation of onsite programmatic-bought retail media activities
- Drive collaboration with off-site retail media and in-store and non-self-serve online retail media
- Research and analyse competitor search performance, strategy and activities
- Define search analysis requirements and work with global teams to build the required functionality/views of the Global Dashboarding solution.
Market Trends
- Monitor and communicate relevant market trends to internal and external stakeholders
- Develop and ensure these key trends are capitalised on and built into Mars' ongoing strategy.
- Develop/understand Global and Local Category best practices and transfer knowledge to Europe for implementation. Transfer European Search success to Global and Local Teams.
