Les missions du poste

Join Ifremer, an ally of planetary well-being, to gain a better understanding of and better protection for the ocean.

From the abyss to the surface, from the coast to the open SEA, Ifremer is the French research institute that is wholly dedicated to the Ocean. Its teams carry out research, innovate and produce expert reports to protect the ocean, exploit its resources in a responsible manner and shares marine data.

Ifremer contributes its scientific expertise to throw light on public policies and develops solutions drawn from the ocean to meet the challenges of the ecological transition. Ifremer is the operator of France's oceanographic fleet with its shipbuilding subsidiary Genavir, and imagines, designs and deploys leading edge technological means to solve the ocean's mysteries.

Join our teams, made up of 1500 scientists and research support staff, present all along the coastal areas of France and French overseas territories.

Who are we?

The Marine Hydrodynamics Laboratory (LHyMar), part of the Research and Technological Development Unit (RDT), conducts research focused on two main scientific areas: Marine Renewable Energy (MRE) and ocean engineering. Research questions are primarily addressed through experimental modeling using scale models and in-situ experiments. The LHyMar team brings together researchers, engineers, technicians, and doctoral students around state-of-the-art hydrodynamic testing facilities designed to study complex wave/current/structure interaction phenomena across a wide range of applications, including current topics (development of tidal and wind farms, wave energy systems, hybrid propulsion systems, etc.).

What will your mission BE?

Fully aligned with the Institute's Contract of Objectives and Means (COMP) and the roadmap of the Physical Resources and Seabed Ecosystems (REM) department, your role is central to the research on the development and design of offshore systems conducted at LHyMar. Under the supervision of the laboratory manager, and in close collaboration with the teams responsible for hydrodynamic testing, you will participate in the design and conduct of scale model tests on prototypes subjected to wave action, as well as in data processing, analysis, and interpretation of results, and their application.

Through your involvement in these various initiatives, you will contribute to the smooth progress of the research conducted by the laboratory's teams and doctoral students, as well as to the collaborative projects carried out within RDT (projects supported by industry partners, the ANR, ADEME, the Offshore Wind Observatory, European programs, etc.).

What will your activities BE ?

- Contribute to the definition, design, and implementation of tank and field testing campaigns.
- Model fluid-structure interactions and resulting behaviors through tank and field tests, interpretations of in situ measurements, or numerical simulations to evaluate structural stresses and dynamic responses, using both linear and nonlinear approaches.
- Develop and coordinate collaborative research programs by defining and implementing experimental programs and analyzing and utilizing the results, in collaboration with industrial and academic partners
- Ensure the operation and effective use of testing facilities through appropriate protocols
- Contribute to training and mentoring initiatives for interns, work-study students, doctoral candidates, and postdoctoral researchers
- Strengthen collaborations and raise the profile of the laboratory's resources and expertise at the national and international levels
- Contribute to the laboratory's scientific reputation by publishing research in journals and presenting at conferences.

Who will you be working with?

- The LHyMar and RDT Unit teams
- Our academic and industrial partners
