The team and areas of ownership
The Digital Showroom team is reimagining B2B sales enablement - and the hard part isn't the showroom, it's what sits underneath it. We take large, constantly-changing PIM catalogues and continuously project them into per-tenant search indexes that stay correct as the source data shifts: the right value, for the right locale, on the right channel, for the right customer, every time. At the top end that's millions of products, re-indexed continuously as the PIM changes, and available immediately for our customers' end users.
The team owns that end to end: the event pipeline that keeps every index in step with the PIM, the search and ranking behaviour on top of it, AI-powered natural-language search, private showrooms that let sales teams share curated selections with external guests, and the background jobs and autoscaling that keep the cost of all of it sane.
How we work
We work as an Impact Team: a cross-functional group aligned around a specific, measurable impact for our customers rather than a list of features to ship.
We work backwards from the customer, start small, and let experimentation and data, not opinions, guide what we build and what we choose not to build.
For each topic we set an appetite - the amount of time we're willing to invest -and ship the best version we can within it. In that environment, you:
Favour an iterative, experiment-driven approach - ship small, learn fast, refine
Take end-to-end ownership of what you build ("Built It, Own It")
Solve complex, ambiguous problems and bring clarity to them
Design and reason about distributed systems
Stay performance-minded - latency, scale, and cost
Give and receive feedback openly - we grow together
Mentor and lift the people around you
Communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences
What you'll own
The calls, not just the code. What we index and what we deliberately don't. What we cache and for how long. What a tenant costs us to serve, and whether that's the right number. You'll make those calls and be able to say what you optimised for and what you gave up.
Correctness at multi-tenant scale. Every product value is scoped to a locale and a channel, per customer. Getting that wrong is invisible in testing and obvious to a customer. You'll design systems where it's hard to get wrong in the first place.
The whole lifecycle. Built It, Own It is literal here. You design it, you ship it to GCP, and you're the one looking at the dashboard afterwards - from microservice design through deployment and observability.
The level around you. Mentoring, reviewing, and setting the standard for how good work gets done here. Your impact should outlast your own commits.
What we'll set you up for success
You've built and operated systems at scale in a serverless cloud environment, ideally with the JavaScript ecosystem (we use Node, React and Next) and GCP. You can walk us through one you scaled, what broke first, and what you changed.
You own what you build. Built It, Own It means you designed it, shipped it, and were the one reading the dashboard the next morning - including the parts that went wrong.
You can defend a decision. Point at something you deliberately didn't build, or a good option you dropped to ship a better one, and tell us how you'd have known if you were wrong. You care whether the thing you shipped moved a number, not whether the ticket closed.
You translate in both directions. You can make a distributed-systems trade-off legible to a product manager, a designer or a customer, and bring their constraints back into the design.
You raise the level around you, through review, mentoring and the standards you hold. Testing is part of that: here, reliability is a design property, not a stage at the end.
You don't need to tick every box. We strongly encourage candidates from all backgrounds to apply. If you are excited about this opportunity but your experience is slightly different, we still want to hear from you!
