Help Shape the Insurance Contracts Behind Complex Risks!

Join Swiss Re and play a key role in shaping insurance wordings for one of the world's leading risk knowledge companies. In this highly visible position, you will be recognised as a trusted expert supporting the French business while influencing underwriting decisions, contractual standards and risk management practices across complex commercial insurance portfolios.

About the Role

As a Senior Insurance Wording Expert, you will play a key role in safeguarding the quality and consistency of our insurance contracts while supporting business growth across the French market.

You will work closely with underwriters, claims experts, legal professionals and other stakeholders to ensure policy wordings are clear, effective, compliant and commercially fit for purpose.

Beyond technical drafting, you will act as a subject matter expert, helping shape underwriting practice, providing strategic guidance on contractual matters, and monitoring emerging market trends.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft and develop French Swiss Re CorSo forms and ad hoc clauses and wordings with precision and accuracy.

  • Review and analyze third party manuscript wordings to identify risks and breach of internal guidelines.

  • Provide expert advice on policy wording and contractual matters to underwriters and other stakeholders.

  • Partner with underwriting teams on complex transactions and wording negotiations.

  • Conduct contract reviews and audits to support quality assurance and continuous improvement.

  • Monitor market developments to proactively ringfence contracts and identify emerging trends.

  • Deliver training and awareness sessions to enhance stakeholder knowledge of policy wordings and contracts principles.

  • Act as a recognised subject matter expert for policy wording matters within the French market, contributing to underwriting excellence and helping shape contractual market standards.

About the Team

The EMEA Contracts & Wording team is responsible for developing and maintaining insurance policy wordings for large commercial risks across multiple lines of business.

We work closely with underwriting teams throughout Europe to ensure contracts are robust, commercially effective and aligned with evolving market developments. The team also provides expert consultation on contractual matters and promotes best practices through training and knowledge sharing initiatives.

As part of this team, you will collaborate with colleagues from different countries and functions while contributing to the continued development of Swiss Re Corporate Solutions' contractual standards.

About You

You are a technically strong insurance professional who enjoys working on complex contractual matters and collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders. You bring an analytical mindset, strong attention to detail, and the confidence to challenge, influence and guide business decisions when required. You communicate clearly, build trusted relationships, and enjoy operating in an environment that values expertise, collaboration and continuous learning.

We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:

  • Native-level French language proficiency.

  • Minimum 7 or more years of relevant experience in underwriting, claims, insurance contracts, policy wording, legal, or related insurance functions.

  • Strong understanding of commercial insurance principles and policy wordings.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of policy wordings across the primary lines of business including E&C, Property, GL or FinPro, as well as their practical implementation.

  • Legal aptitude and exceptional attention to detail with ability to analyse complex contractual language and identify potential risks.

  • Proven experience collaborating with underwriters and other business stakeholders.

  • Ability to influence discussions and negotiate wording solutions effectively.

  • Strong ability to communicate effectively.

These are additional nice to have:

  • Insurance qualification and/or legal qualification.

  • Engineering and Construction industry expertise.

  • Exposure to international insurance markets.

  • Proficiency in additional European languages.

We embrace hybrid working, combining in-person collaboration with the flexibility to work from home. Our employees spend at least three days each week in the office. #LI-Hybrid
