Les missions du poste

ROLE
Supervised by the department head, the editor will help implement the editorial programme by producing printed and/or
digital publications and making them available to the public.
They will BE working closely on a daily basis with the editors-in-chief of the journals and with other members of the
department, particularly French-speaking graphic designers and editors.

PRINCIPAL TASKS
Editing of English versions of journals :
- Helping to define the editorial policy (positioning of the journals at international level, adapting to open science
standards, dissemination strategies, scientific integrity policy)
- Helping to create and monitor production schedules
- Responsibility for editorial production to press proof/digital proof stage :
o Preparing copy (copyfitting, correction of typographical and spelling errors, etc.), revising and rewriting,
checking compliance with publishing standards, working with authors (researchers from within the Institute
and elsewhere)
o Multimedia content preparation (texts, tables, graphics) : structuring, enrichment, hypertext links, monitoring
the publishing workflow (XML-TEI workflow)
o Working on mockups in InDesign (integrating corrections)
- Contributing to discussions on editorial processes, with the aim of improving efficiency
- Involvement in editorial boards
- Ensuring consistency of English and French versions
Editing the English translation of books (maximum 1 book per year) :
- Preparing copy (copyfitting, correction of typographical and spelling errors, etc.), revising and rewriting, checking
compliance with publishing standards, working with authors (researchers from within the Institute and elsewhere)
- Preparing content for digital publications (XML-TEI workflow : structuring, enrichment, hypertext links, workflow
monitoring)
Involvement in promotion of publications :
- Representing INED Publications at events (for the research community, general public, or industry events)
- Monitoring the publication of the journals on Cairn
- Updating the Population website and other webpages about the journal on the INED website
Other :
- Keeping aware of developments in the scientific publishing sector, open science, and legal context
- Being involved in professional networks, science fairs, symposia, and industry meetings

Le profil recherché

KEY SKILLS REQUIRED
KNOWLEDGE :
- Knowledge of the scientific environment, ability to understand scientific reasoning and statistics (and associated
terminology)
- Knowledge of the language of social science research
- Knowledge of the legal and regulatory framework of publishing
- Typographic, bibliographic and documentation standards
- Standards and techniques for content structuring
- Editorial workflow in the context of scientific publishing
- Editing and publication in an open science context
OPERATIONAL SKILLS :
- Bilingual English-French
- Excellent writing and editing skills in English
- Excellent command of the French language (vocabulary, syntax, spelling)
- Excellent command of translation techniques and terminology
- Ability to draft content for various readerships
- Ability to rewrite scientific documents
- Good command of relevant software : Word, XML-TEI language in Métopes, InDesign
- Application of standards, procedures, and rules specific to scientific publications
- Creation of editorial policies
PERSONAL SKILLS :
