Les missions du poste

Magellium (Artal Group), with its 300 employees, is an independent player specializing in the value chain of remote sensing data (from satellite or drone sensors to its use in Earth observation systems and services, mapping, and Geo-intelligence) which promotes mastery of space technologies, software, signal processing, and geomatics.

As part of its Earth Observation activities, Magellium is involved in major programs carried out by space agencies and other Institutions. Magellium is recognized by its clients for its scientific expertise in numerous fields, ranging from the physics of measurement to downstream applications. The Earth observation projects entrusted to us by our Clients notably involve the implementation of scientific processing chains for data acquired by satellites.

These processing chains are designed for various objectives: scientific research, concept validation, or integration into the ground segments of satellite missions. Their particularity lies in the need to combine expertise in scientific and algorithmic remote sensing techniques with a mastery of engineering (methodological, organizational, and IT) of the processing chains.

Within the "Earth Observation" unit, you will work within a team specializing in the development and operation of Ground Segments, with space agencies, including CNES and ESA, as main clients.

The position to be filled concerns the role of Tech Lead for the Mission Performance Center of ESA FLEX (FLEX DISC - Data Innovation and Science Cluster). This flagship project for the ESA FLEX mission aims to monitor and guarantee the quality of products related to vegetation fluorescence. Magellium coordinates a consortium of 13 European institutional and industrial players and leads numerous technical and scientific activities.

Under the responsibility of the FLEX DISC Project Manager, you will assume the system-level technical responsibility. You will lead and technically supervise the work of the different critical subsystems of the project :

- IPF (Instrument Processing Facilities): Operational L1C and L2 processing chains.
- L2PP (L2 Processor Prototype): Scientific prototype for the extraction of fluorescence and biophysical parameters.
- Cal/Val & QC: Calibration, scientific validation, and operational quality control tools.
- CP (Collaborative Platform): Collaborative working environment for the scientific community.

As such, your main missions are:

- Overall management and coordination of system development by ensuring the achievement of performance objectives (scientific accuracy, computation time), in close liaison with ESA and the consortium partners.
- Technical supervision and monitoring of the subsystems' progress (organization of work, supervision of subsystem managers, management of technical risks).
- Management of system interfaces and collaboration with scientific experts (ESL) with the aim of carrying out the activities necessary for measuring and improving the level of accuracy of the products generated by the Ground Segment.
- Supervision of in-flight acceptance and operation phases to ensure compliance with ESA requirements throughout the life of the FLEX mission, including coordination of the MCO (In-Operational Condition Maintenance) of processors and cal/val tools during in-flight acceptance and Operations phases.

Le profil recherché

Holder of a degree from a top-tier engineering school or a Doctorate in the fields of computer science, applied mathematics, or image processing, you have confirmed experience in technical/system responsibility on space ground segments.

Technical skills :

- Expertise in satellite image processing chains and understanding of product levels (L1/L2).
- Understanding of the different subsystems of a Ground Segment, including the processing chain and calibration/validation activities.
- Solid skills in scientific IT development.
- Ability to synthesize and critically review technical/scientific documents.
- Fluent command of English (international context with ESA and European partners).

Human/soft skills :

- Strong technical leadership and a flair for coordinating multiple technical and scientific stakeholders.
- Excellent oral communication to interact with panels of experts.
- Curiosity about scientific issues related to climate change and vegetation.
- Good capacity for adaptation and quickly acquiring competence on new technical subjects.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, team spirit, and clear communication.
- Autonomy, sense of responsibility, and commitment.

At Magellium, diversity and inclusion are fundamental to our functioning and are anchored in our values. We respect the diversity of our employees, their experiences, their origins, their disabilities, and offer equal opportunities to all.

All different, all competent!
